After a successful Winter Season when the award winning Ross and Cromarty Pipes & Drums School added to their trophy collection they will be embarking on a challenging Summer Season of competitions and performances.
During the winter The Band added to the North of Scotland Championship Trophy they won at last season’s Aberdeen Highland Games with the Novice/Juvenile and Grade 4 trophies won at the Piping Quartettes competition and the Novice/Juvenile Trophy won at the Mini Bands’ Competition. At these competitions they not only beat the other Novice/Juvenile bands who competed against them but also many Adult Bands.
The Band began their Summer Season by playing for the departure of the maiden visit of The Arielle to the Port of Invergordon last Friday evening and, despite the pouring rain, their performance was greatly appreciated by the passengers of the ship who watched them, despite the inclement weather. This was the first of seven performances that The Band will make for the departure of Cruise ships at Invergordon this summer. The Band plays at the dockside for half an hour before the departure of the ships but can be seen for half an hour prior to this when they assemble near to the Pier Shop.
The Band will also be making appearance this summer at The Moy Field Sports Fair, The Glenmorangie Highland Gathering, The Helmsdale Highland Games and The Invergordon Highland Games but they can next be seen on “home turf” when they play at the inaugural Alness Academy Highland Games on the evening of June 20.
Before that though The Band leave on May 18, for their first competition of the Summer Season, The Scottish Championships at Dumbarton on the following day, May 19.
As the Novice/Juvenile competition begins at 09:00 on the Saturday morning The Band will be staying overnight in Glasgow and then travelling to Dumbarton for the following days’ competition. They are drawn in a particularly tough group of Novice/Juvenile Bands including the current World Champion Novice/Juvenile Band.
The Band will also be competing in two other major championships, The European Championships which are being held on July 28 in Inverness this year as part of Highland 2007 and also The Worlds on August 11 Glasgow Green. The Turriff, Aberdeen, Inverness and Mintlaw Highland Games also form part of The Band’s itinerary for the North of Scotland Champion of Champion’s Trophy.
