PASSCHENDAELE
This year the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 in Zonnebeke in Belgium is commemorationg the Battle of Passchendaele of 1917.
From 1914 to 1918 the Ypres Salient was one of the strongholds of the Bristish Expeditionary Force with towns such as Zonnebeke and Passchendaele in the frontline.
For the 90th anniversary of the battle the Museum is organising 6 exhibitions and 4 event weekends, commemorating the involvement of British and Dominian Forces during the Great War. The Scots 51th Division had a heroic and bloody attack at the Frezenberg on the 16th August, on the way to Passchendaele.
On Saturday 25 August, at this site of the Frezenberg, the Museum is inaugurating the first monument ever for all Scots who fought during the Great War. With the inauguration there will be a Scots weekend on Saturday and Sunday with tattoo and Highland Games.
